AMSOIL DOMINATOR® Synthetic Racing Oil provides superior performance and maximum protection in high-performance and racing applications. DOMINATOR is engineered to better withstand the elevated rpm, high temperatures and shock-loading common to racing applications. Its robust formulation, tested and validated by championship race teams, is designed to provide maximum horsepower without sacrificing engine protection. DOMINATOR provides straight-grade protection in a multi-grade formulation.
AMSOIL, the leader in automotive synthetic lubrication, produced the world's first API-qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972. Trust the extensive experience of AMSOIL The First in Synthetics® to do the best job protecting your engine.
Fights Engine Wear
DOMINATOR Synthetic Racing Oil's durable formulation resists viscosity loss due to mechanical shear to maintain a strong protective oil film. It is heavily fortified with zinc and phosphorus anti-wear additives to provide additional protection against scuffing and wear in severe racing conditions.
Maximizes Horsepower
DOMINATOR is formulated with a proprietary friction modifier to reduce energy lost to friction. It delivers maximum horsepower and cooler engine temperatures, promoting improved lap times and longer-lasting components.
Excellent All-Temperature Performance
DOMINATOR provides maximum protection in temperature extremes. Its low pour point offers excellent start-up protection and provides less drag when the oil has not reached stable operating temperatures. At elevated operating temperatures, it maintains superior film strength. DOMINATOR's thermally stable synthetic chemistry resists the effects of intense heat common to racing engines to provide reliable protection for the duration of the race.
Commercial Availability
Many oil companies produce specialty racing oils for elite groups and do not offer them to the general public. For example, several popular oil manufacturers produce racing oils offered only to NASCAR teams. DOMINATOR Synthetic Racing Oil is already formulated to a high level of performance. It provides maximum performance and superior protection to all racers, regardless of their competition level. The same DOMINATOR Synthetic Racing Oil that is used in the engines of AMSOIL corporately sponsored racers, including Scott Douglas and Brad Lovell, is available to everyone.
APPLICATIONS
DOMINATOR Synthetic Racing Oil is compatible with leaded and unleaded gasoline, diesel, alcohol, nitromethane and nitrous oxide.
Use DOMINATOR 15W-50 Synthetic Racing Oil in domestic and import racing and high-performance engines where an SAE 50 viscosity oil is recommended, including (not limited to):
AMSOIL Ea® Racing Air Filters (EAAR) are specially designed for racing and street rod enthusiasts who desire AMSOIL Ea protection in carbureted applications. AMSOIL Ea Racing Air Filters are constructed with synthetic, providing maximum protection and extended filter life.
Oil Analyzers Inc®. (715-395-0222) is a division of AMSOIL that provides cost-effective, quality oil analysis services.
Service Life

Protects Against Engine Wear
AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil develops a strong fluid film that keeps metal surfaces separated while its robust anti-wear additives further reduce wear in metal-to-metal contact regions for maximum engine life. The Sequence IVA Engine Test, which must be passed to meet the industry-standard API SN specification, simulates extended periods of stop-and-go driving. For 100 hours, the test engine cycles between 50 minutes of idling and 10 minutes of elevated rpm – conditions that encourage engine wear. The camshaft is then measured for wear in 84 locations and an average score is determined. We used Signature Series 0W-20, the lightest viscosity in the line, to further increase the severity of the test. AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil provided 75 percent more engine protection against horsepower loss and wear1 than required by the industry standard, extending the life of vital components like pistons and cams.
After rigorous third-party testing, the cam lobes show little-to-no wear. |
SEQUENCE IVA ENGINE TEST Lower number = less wear |
1Based on independent testing of AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-20, in ASTM D6891 as required by the API SN specification.
Protects Pistons from Low-Speed Pre-Ignition Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like GM* have addressed the issue by designing tests to determine a motor oil’s ability to prevent LSPI. Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil achieved 100 percent protection against LSPI1 in the engine test required by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification - zero occurrences were recorded throughout five consecutive tests. |
Protects Turbochargers We challenged Signature Series to the GM Turbo Coking Test, which consists of 2000 cycles of extreme heat soaks. An oil must limit the temperature change within the turbocharger to 13 percent or less to pass the test. Signature Series limited the temperature increase to only 3.6 percent, protecting the turbocharger 72 percent better than required2 by the GM dexos1® Gen 2 specification. |
Extends Drains: Protection Guaranteed
AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil provides reserve protection, allowing you to go longer between oil changes if you choose – up to 25,000 miles, 700 hours of operation or one year, whichever comes first*. Our unique synthetic formulation and long-drain additive system are inherently stable to resist oxidation and neutralize acids over longer periods. Signature Series is designed to deliver outstanding engine protection, cleanliness and performance over extended drain intervals – guaranteed. Preserves Horsepower
The extreme durability of Signature Series Motor Oil ensures your engine runs stronger, for longer. We installed Signature Series 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil in a Ford* F-150 with a new 3.5L Ecoboost engine to test its ability to protect turbocharged direct-injection (TDGI) engines from torque and horsepower loss during extended drain intervals up to 25,000 miles. Power sweeps were done at the beginning and end of the test to evaluate horsepower and torque retention. As the graph shows, Signature Series helped maintain engine performance throughout the 100,000 mile test.
Limits Oil Consumption
Signature Series has a uniform molecular structure that limits evaporation and keeps it where it's needed most – protecting your engine. Volatility (burn-off) occurs when oil gets hot, causing lighter molecules to burn off or evaporate. This leads to oil thickening, additive imbalance, higher emissions and oil consumption. The NOACK Volatility test is the industry standard for evaluating motor oil high temperature evaporation. It measures the percentage of burn-off after a motor oil is placed under constant airflow at 482ºF for 1 hour. A lower number indicates a better resistance to evaporation. Signature Series falls far below the API limit for volatility, reducing the need for frequent oil top-offs and limiting vehicle emissions.
Easier Cold-Starts
Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil does not contain paraffins (wax) and stays fluid in temperatures of -58ºF and lower. Extreme cold causes other motor oils to thicken, starving vital moving parts of lubrication, accelerating wear and even preventing vehicles from starting. Signature Series provides 66 percent better cold-temperature performance for easier starting, better fuel economy, improved oil flow (as seen below) and reduced wear.
Maintains Protective Viscosity
We formulated Signature Series with superior thermal durability that resists breakdown better than conventional and synthetic motor oils. The Sequence IIIH Test uses the Chrysler 3.6L Pentastar engine to evaluate a motor oil's ability to resist the damaging effects of heat. The test is conducted with oil temperatures of 304ºF, 100ºF hotter than normal operation, to accelerate oil thickening and deposits. Despite the extreme conditions, Signature Series kept pistons clean and held thickening to only 6 percent, a minimal amount compared to the proposed specification limit of 150 percent.1 This stay-in-grade performance helps maintain maximum power and fuel economy while also ensuring advanced technologies like variable valve timing (VVT) operate as designed throughout the entire drain interval.

Resists Oil Breakdown
XL Synthetic Motor Oil maintains its fluidity (viscosity) under the most extreme conditions. Some oils break down and significantly increase in viscosity after extended periods of high-temperature operation. These changes can cause excessive oil consumption, engine deposits, accelerated wear and difficult cold-starts. The GM Oxidation and Deposit (GMOD) Test consists of a 5.7L V8 engine running at 293ºF (100º hotter than normal) for 100 hours. These severe operating conditions test an oils ability to control viscosity increase, deposits and oil consumption. The testing revealed that AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oil provides 64 percent more protection against oil breakdown1 than required by the GM dexos1® Gen 2 specification, ensuring protection in extreme temperatures.
Protects Pistons from Low-Speed Pre-Ignition
XL Synthetic Motor Oil features unique chemistry proven to protect your engine against the harmful effects of low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI). LSPI is the spontaneous ignition of the fuel/air mixture prior to spark-triggered ignition. Most new engines feature gasoline direct-inject (GDI), often coupled with a turbocharger. These technologies heighten the possibility of LSPI events, which can destroy pistons and connecting rods. A properly formulated motor oil is critical for protecting your engine against LSPI.
Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like GM have addressed the issue by designing tests to determine a motor oil's ability to prevent LSPI. XL Synthetic Motor Oil achieved 100 percent protection against LSPI2 – zero occurrences were recorded throughout five consecutive tests.
Keeps Engines Clean
AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oil is fortified with detergent and dispersant additives. Its boosted additive package effectively raises the total base number (TBN) to neutralize acids and resist sludge, corrosion and carbon deposits. XL provides 25 percent more cleaning power3 to help keep your engine running smoother, longer.
Reduces Maintenance
Motorists, business owners and fleet managers benefit from the boosted engine protection of AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oil. Frequent oil changes are expensive, time-consuming and inconvenient. The extra protection built into XL can provide extended drain intervals up to 12,000 miles or one year4, if you choose, allowing you to change oil on your schedule, reduce maintenance, save money and reduce waste oil.
Maximizes Fuel Economy & Maintains Low Emissions
XL Synthetic Motor Oil is licenced by the American Petroleum Institute (API) to meet and exceed the requirements commonly found in owner's manuals. It excels in fuel-economy testing, earning the additional "Resource Conserving" designation5 from the API. XL is also friendly toward modern emissions control systems, promoting proper operation of catalytic converters for optimum service life and low exhaust emissions.
1Based on independent testing of AMSOIL XL 5W-30 motor oil in the GMOD engine test required for the GM dexos1 Gen2 specification.
2Based on zero LSPI events in five consecutive tests of AMSOIL XL 5W-30 Motor Oil in the LSPI engine test required by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification.
